Police in Migori have launched a man hunt of a convict who escaped from Kendege Prison in Kuria East, Migori County yesterday evening.

According to Kuria East OCPD Hammed Abdikadir he said that the inmate, who has been serving a three-year jail term, was cleaning the prison’s compound in the company of other convicts when he jumped over the fence and escaped into a nearby thicket.

While speaking to Dala fm Abdikadir said that the inmate, who is a resident of Ntimaru Kuria east sub county, had been jailed a month ago after he was found guilty of stealing a motorcycle in the area two months ago.

The disappearance of the convict comes a week after 6 remandees   jumped from a police vehicle which was ferrying them from Rongo Law Courts to the Migori GK prison and disappeared into a neighboring sugarcane plantation at Stella area in Uriri Sub-County as two of them were caught in one of the sugar cane plantation in the area and re-arrested as four of them are still at large.

Police have however urged members of the public to volunteer information that could lead to the arrest of the escapees.
