Police Camp Burnt in Siaya


Residents of Anyiko Village in Yala township location in Gem Sub County stormed and burnt to ashes the Anyiko Administration Police camp over claims that the police killed a suspect.

It is said that the public claimed that the police had arrested the youth who was suspected to be drunk and locked him up in one of the cells where they beat him senselessly.

The youth a bodaboda operator at Anyiko center who was identified as Erick Ouma is said to be arrested on claims of drunkardnes and disorderly.

The police were forced to call for reinforcement from Yala and Siaya police station as members of the public were overwhelming them.

Siaya county police commandant Beatrice Gachagua confirmed the burning of the police camp refuting claims that the inmate was beaten to death by the police officers.

Gachagua said that the suspect was drunk and started vomiting while at the police cells before he was rushed to Yala level four hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

The police boss said that they have removed all the 5 police officers attached to the camp following the incident and redeployed them to other stations since the area had become hostile.

She said that they will nolonger allow any of their officers to be based in that camp and will not conduct security patrols in the region until that time that the public will be willing to put the camp and work and promise to work in harmony with the security officers.
