Plea to Raila to have LBDA mall opened

By JOSEPH OJWANG. Kisumu 2nd Sept. 2019.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has been called upon to intervene and have Lake Basin Development Authority (LBDA) mall in Kisumu opened.

Kisumu Nominated Senator Rose Nyamunga is the latest to wade into the politics of the mall noting that endless talks will now not help.

Nyamunga says the country leadership must now ensure that they come into the matter and have sticking issues resolved for the mall to be operational.

She says the mall is complete and since 2016 when it was completed nothing has been done.

Senator Nyamunga says the mall has the capacity to employ hundreds of jobless youth and uplift the economy of the region.

Speaking to the press in Kisumu, Nyamunga says the bank loan that was used for the construction of the mall should be paid since it is accruing interests.

She termed as rumours that the mall will be auctioned if the impasse is not resolved as a matter of urgency.

Nyamunga spoke as Senate Devolution Committee which she is a member visited the mall on Friday and accused Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) of sabotage through endless investigations into the loss of funds in the mall.

This is even after the LBDA chairman Calvince Owidi maintained that no money was lost in the mall claiming that the initial budget stood at Sh. 2.5 billion but due to additional structures, the bill shot up to Sh. 3.8 billion.
