Over 4,000 secondary students are at home in Nyanza region following school unrest as 26 secondary schools remained closed indefinitely.
Nyanza regional police coordinator Leonard Katana says schools in Siaya County are the most affected standing at 12 followed by Kisumu County that has closed down 9 schools.
Katana says that all the six counties in the region are affected by the school unrest.
Briefing the press in Kisumu, Katana says a total of 47 students were arrested by the police and have been arraigned in various courts across the region.
He says the affected school administrators have been directed to work on the cost of the destruction.
Katana announced that security personnel in the region has heightened patrols in the schools and told school administrators to work closely with them to mitigate school unrest.
Minara secondary school in Muhoroni is the latest to sent students home after fire gutted down a dormitory last night.
