The Republic of Kenya has been selected as hosts of the 9th edition of Africa’s premier gathering of cities and local governments – the Africities Summit, in 2021. The signature event of the United Cities and Local Governments in Africa (UCLG-Africa) will be held in Kenya for the second time after the first one in 2006.
The host city will be Kisumu City. Africities is invariably the world’s largest meeting of local governments and cities. Other cities that have hosted the Summit include Dakar, Johannesburg, Abidjan, Windhoek, Younde, Nairobi and Marrakech.
Kisumu City has come of age as a conference destination.
The Government of Kenya has indicated strong commitment to deliver a successful Africities Summit in 2021, placing Kisumu City at a vintage position to build partnerships with a wide range of state and non-state actors to ensure readiness to host this distinguished event.
There’s no doubt that towards the 2021 Summit and after the Summit, Kisumu City will not be the same again!
We thank the President of the Republic of Kenya, His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta and the UCLG-Africa under the leadership of Secretary-General Mr. Jean Pierre Elong Mbassi for the confidence they have shown in Kisumu City and the County Government of Kisumu. We will not disappoint.
