Industries have been implored to target to achieve a circular economy through improved waste management.
Kenya National Cleaner Production Centre Director Dr Jane Nyakango says industries must set up a well functioning recycling sector that will spur growth and open up job opportunities.
Nyakango says no waste should go into the environment thus causing pollution which in turn affects the universe.
She says President Uhuru Kenyatta is categorical for the circular economy where industries make use of all waste that they generate into profit.
Speaking in Kisumu during a public participation at Kibos Sugar Company that intends to set up a bio fertilizer factory, Nyakango says waste must be recycled and reused to extract the maximum value from it.
Kibos sugar factory already is running paper, electricity and distillery factories as a result of waste generated from crushing sugarcane.
Nyakango says the factory now intends to set up a bio fertilizer factory from waste generated from the distillery factory.
She says the country is pushing for a greener economy through acceptable technology and hailed Kibos for being on the forefront.
Nyakango says the company aims to eliminate waste through innovations without affecting locals.
