Counties were urged to put more investments in the health sector for locals to feel the benefits of Universal Healthcare Coverage (UHC) as the 3rd UHC conference comes to a close in Kisumu.
The three days event held in the lakeside city took stock on the challenges and successes of the UHC in the four counties of Isiolo, Kisumu, Machakos and Nyeri where the program was piloted.
Kisumu Senator Fred Outa, a member of the Senate committee on health said more resources were required to be pumped into the health docket.
Outa said issues of inadequate personnel and drugs made it impossible for patients to receive proper medication.
Speaking to the press in Kisumu at the end of the event, the Senator said counties must raise their budgets for healthcare and source for external funding to help in the realization of UHC.
He challenged the national government to off load all health functions at their disposal to the counties and increase funds for proper management of healthcare.
Outa announced that Senate will start investigations into the purchase of hospital equipment worth Sh. 38 billion that was distributed in all the 47 counties.
He noted that already the Senate had put a curvier on the national government not to pay the contractor that supplied the equipment until when the Senate shall have finished its investigations over the equipment.
