A former Migori county assembly member was today locked behind bars for allegedly obtaining money falsely from a teacher in return for a well-paying job within the county government.

Joshua Onyango Ouma, alias Ong’oma  was  whisked away   by sleuths  from a  hotel room  within Rakwaro Shopping center,  where  he  had directed  the teacher  to pick his job appointment letter.

It is  reported  that Ongo’ma , formerly of East Kamagambo Ward , within Rongo  sub -county had requested  the unsuspecting  teacher to  give  him kshs.600,000 so as to secure him  the  lucrative post  of a  finance  director.

The  teacher  however became  suspicious  when  the appointment letter was taking too long  to be delivered to him  and walked straight  to the governor’s offices  to  pick it, only to realize  that  he had been  conned .

However during interrogation  at the CID offices in Migori, ongoma  said that  the teacher had sent him the  money as a   friend and was willing  to  return.

Confirming   the   incident, Migori   county police Commander Joseph Nthenge said that   they have locked up    suspect   as they are still   looking for his accomplice who   is currently at large.

Director of communications in the governor’s office Mr.  Nicholas Anyuor  has strongly  condemned the  act  saying that  the county  government  does  not ask for  bribe / favors  to  employ  people.

This  comes  barely a week  after  the  disbandment  of the  county  public  service board  over corruption  allegations.

Anyuor  has asked  the public to be  cautious  of  people  who are taking advantage  of the inexistence of the service board  to  fleece  money  from people .
