Following heavy flooding in Awasi Onjiko ward in Nyando Sub County, the area MCA Maurice Ngeta is now appealing for help.
Ngeta says he has reached out to the national and county governments over the fate of his people who are displaced by floods.
He says help should arrive first to cushion his electorates from further sufferings after River Ayueyo burst its banks submerging their houses.
Locals salvaged nothing as raging floods washed away their belongings towards Lake Victoria.
Speaking to the press in his ward, Ngeta says currently those affected by the floods are camping at Ayueyo primary and secondary schools.
He narrated how the heavy rains last night caused massive destruction to property to the residents.
Ngeta says he mobilized the leadership in the county to be able to see for themselves the damage caused.
He says what the locals needs are food and non food items as they wait for the floods to subside.
The MCA says with the COVID 19 pandemic it is getting difficult for the flood victims to practice social distancing.
Ngeta says more space is required to accommodate the affected locals and be able to comply with the directives of the ministry of health as far as combating Corona virus is concerned.
He assured his constituents that his office is doing what it could to ensure duty bearers respond to their needs in time.
The flooding paraylsed transport along Kisumu-Kisii road with motorists forced to use long alternative routes that include Awasi and Kericho.
