2018 Groove Awards winners land AAR Insurance medical cover

Kenya’s second largest medical underwriter, AAR Insurance will provide free medical cover to this year’s top Groove Awards winners.

Guardian Angel who bagged the artist of the year award and was the overall 2018 Groove Awards winner, will get an in patient medical cover of Sh6 million while his counterparts Timeless Noel, Hype Ochi and Jabidii of the hit song Odi dance will get a Sh1million cover each from the underwriter. Odi dance won four awards namely, collabo of the year, Song of the year, Skiza Award and dance style of the year.

Medical Insurance is, unfortunately, a luxury for the majority of musicians or artists in Kenya especially those who are starting out. The nature of their job being mostly freelance or short-term contracts, means buying private insurance can be downright prohibitive for them given the cost and the unpredictable nature of freelance income.

“This is our way of supporting upcoming local talent which we believe has great potential if nurtured and supported . As AAR Insurance, we consider the creative industry a big contributor to the economy especially as part of the small and medium Enterprises and we shall direct efforts in nurturing this industry as part of our contribution to spurring job creation for the youth who make up a significant proportion of the Kenyan population,” said Nixon Shigoli, AAR Insurance Kenya Managing Director.

The 2018 Groove Awards went down on 24th June at the Kasarani indoor arena. The gospel awards show, hosted by Daddy Owen, Moji Shortbabaa and Dj soxxy featured performances from DK Kwenye Beat, Masterpiece to name but a few.
