Parents with children suffering from cleft palate deformity have been advised to seek medical attention for such children.
A health consultant based in Kisumu, Dr. Benard Okomo, said that cleft palate can be corrected surgically. He said the surgery is mostly done at health facilities and at times through sponsored organizations.
Speaking to Dala FM, Dr.Okomo noted that children with cleft palate are prone to respiratory related diseases. He said that this can cause health complications if early surgical operation is not conducted to correct the deformity which mostly affect the upper lip and can spread to the upper part of the mouth.
Dr. Okomo has urged expectant mothers to regularly attend antenatal care in order to prevent such deformities.
